Indian Students Win Top Laurels in the Global Adobe Youth Voices Program

Adobe, as part of its commitment to the next generation of creatives, announced the names of three students as awardees of the 2015 Adobe Creativity Scholarship Awards, viz. Revathi S. from Christel House India, a Bangalore based non-profit organization, and two students, Shikha Patra and Salim Sheikh, from Prayasam, a Kolkata based non-profit organization.

Revathi S. from Christel House, Bangalore, one of the beneficiaries of this scholarship, completed grade 12 this academic year 2014-15 with distinction. Revathi lost her mother when she was in grade 8 and has had a troubled childhood. Revathi’s father was an alcoholic and completely indifferent to her wellbeing. She also faced undue pressure from her family to get married at a young age. Inspite of challenging circumstances Revathi did not give up hope and fought for her right to education.

In Revathi’s words, “I value education and my dream is to become a teacher. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have received the 2015 Adobe Creativity Scholarship Award for further studies; because of which I could secure admission in one of the best universities in Karnataka. I am determined to work hard and use every opportunity to excel in my studies. I remain immensely grateful to Adobe for this generous scholarship and my school, Christel House India which nurtured me for the last 12 years and taught me that success is the product of hard work.”

Project Garb-age

Christel House India has another reason to celebrate as social venture film “Garb-age” created by its students won the annual Adobe Youth Voices Audience Award in the ‘Social Venture’ category.

Adobe Youth Voices Awards is a global, online competition for students aged 13 to 19 years who create digital media designed to drive positive change in their communities. The awards identify winners every year in five different categories: animation, documentary, narrative, visual composition and social venture, a category that showcases videos from youth pitching ideas on ways to address critical social issues. A record 2,700 students submitted 1,575 projects on social issues including bullying, body image, human equality and climate change. 15 winning projects were identified from a pool of 53 finalists and 318,738 individual votes in five categories including animation, documentary, narrative, visual composition and social venture.

The social venture project ‘Garb-age’ focuses on the problems faced by communities due to poor garbage disposal facilities. The prime aim of the project is to sensitize communities to maintain a healthy and clean environment. Gopal K., Revathi S., Giridher S., Priyan D. C., Samuel A. and Dilip Kumar V. from Christel House India who were involved in developing the film will receive one year free subscription of Adobe Creative Cloud and cash grants for the nonprofits that support their vision for change. They are also eligible to apply for the Adobe Creativity Scholarship and will receive mentorship from Ashoka Youth Ventures to help them address the social issue they want to solve. Christel House India will receive one tablet along with one year free subscription of Adobe Creative Cloud.
